Monday night was a busy night for Brent Key as he offered three players from the state of Alabama and more specifically his alma-mater Hewitt Trussville. Two of the three offers he gave out were to Alabama commitments and the only one undecided as of now is Eric Taylor (CB Malachi Moore and WR Dazalin Worsham were the others).
Speaking to Eric on Thursday, he said he didn’t know much about Georgia Tech although he does know current OL Mike Maye. It’s not surprising as despite being very close to Alabama, Georgia Tech haven’t been big players in the state. Based on offers, Alabama is the 4th most recruited state by Georgia Tech staff since 2016 giving out 37 offers since that time but Tech has only gained 3 signings from that period: Tony Amerson, Mike Maye, and Jay Jones.
All 3 offers last night came from Brent Key who previously recruited the high school during his time with Alabama. “Me and coach (Key) have a pretty good relationship” Taylor said when speaking about new Georgia Tech coach Brent Key “we talk from time to time”.
High school football forms a special bond between teammates and with 2 of Eric’s teammates getting offers from Georgia Tech, I asked him how important it is to go to the same school as them: “Let’s say we all picked the same school that would be pretty special.”
The biggest sell Georgia Tech has over other schools, especially to the parents, is their world class academics and Eric says “academics are huge for me…my mom really wants me to get my degree…I have to have a backup plan.”
Eric Taylor currently holds 11 SEC offers and 2 ACC offers so the competition for his signature is stiff. When asked on his future plans regarding Georgia Tech, Eric said “I think I could possibly get down to Georgia Tech in the upcoming months.”
Brent Key will be at Hewitt-Trussville this week and will hopefully make Eric and his teammates really consider being a part of the new era!
